TOKYO — Seafood processor Nichiro Corp said Friday it will recall some 4.80 million cans of tuna after receiving a complaint that a piece of box cutter blade was found in one of the cans.

Nichiro acted after being contacted by a man in Osaka who said he found a 1.9-cm-long, 1.1-cm-wide piece of blade in a can of Tanomino Tsuna containing oiled tuna meat. The company decided to voluntarily recall all products made from April 2005 at its factory in Vietnam. The product in question comes in two varieties, Maguro flake oil "mutenka" (oiled tuna flakes with no preservatives) and Maguro flake "aburazuke" (oil-dipped flaked tuna).
